Membership / Guest
Guest
A guest attends a Dinner or a Salon at the invitation of a member. It is how most people first come to know the Society: as someone's guest, at someone's table, on a particular evening.
How It Works
What guest standing means.
Extended by a Member
Guest standing is not applied for. A member extends it, personally, when they bring someone to a Dinner or a Salon they believe belongs at the table.
A Single Evening
Guest standing covers the evening it is extended for. It is not a membership tier so much as a considered exception, made by a member on their own judgement.
Welcomed and Watched Over
A guest is treated as a member’s responsibility for the evening: introduced properly, seated thoughtfully, and made to feel like part of the table rather than an observer of it.
Often, a Beginning
Many of the Society’s members began as someone’s guest, at someone’s table, on a particular evening. A guest who is a natural fit is often the one a member later endorses for membership.
The Surest Way In
Many members began as someone’s guest.
If you know a member, the surest way to meet the Society is at their table. If you do not, an invitation request is the other door in.
